April 26 2015 Offshore Fishing Report Palm Beach

Carrie and I headed out just happy to be out and was just hoping to catch a few fish. We didn't hit the water until 8am since Carrie had a little bit of a headache. The wind was howling out of the west but we were able to get offshore enough to land Carrie's first Sail. The Sail hit within the first 10 minutes of having a line in. After a 30 minute battle the fish was in for our first boated sail in almost 2 years! It was great to get the monkey off our back. It took a dead sardine on a big old sinker that was meant to get a Snapper. Since it was a windy day and the current was ripping the bait was likely in the middle portion of the water column anyhow. We only had 4/0 circle hook on 40lb test. Not the typical Sailfish catch but we will take it! We were fishing just north of Breakers in 75' of water. Fish hit in 90' or so around 830am. After this we landed a Kingfish in about the same location. While fighting the Sail we had another one jump right in front of us. Probably could have hooked him too but we were focused on getting one in since it was her first! Water was very clear, temps were very warm (97 for a high). All the times we go out at 6am, buy live bait, do everything you are supposed to do, we end up catching on in an unconventional way. I guess that's why its called fishing... Here are some pics we got!

Carrie and I were invited to fish the Surveyor's fishing tournament on the Blue Heron Drift Boat so we took them up on the free trip. Carrie and I spent more times untangling lines which was to be expected whoever the boat landed a few Cobia and lots of Bonita. We had some massive Bull Sharks join the party. They fished pretty much 80' to 150' over the reed just south of Juno Beach. There are some good Cobia spots there so we need to make sure we give that a shot sometime in the future. No pics from this trip but was nice to see everyone enjoy the day.

Me, Andrew, Bryan and his uncle hit the waters after a rainy afternoon. We sat at the ramp until about 5pm when the skies cleared enough for us to get out and see if we couldn't catch something for dinner. There was bait everywhere although we couldn't catch it. We saw a free jumping Sail in 180' of water just north of the inlet. We ran over to it but no luck getting him to bite. We did manage a bonita to save the skunk. Had been awfully close the last few times and was getting pretty discouraging to see how slow the bite was.

Me, Carrie, Richard and Amber hit the water around 9am after rain delayed our start. We again really struggled to find fish but Richard managed one 20lb bonita at the very end of the day. We trolled, bottom fished, and basically tried everything except dynamite with no luck. We saw several turtles which made Amber happy!

Me, Carrie, Becca and Matt hit the inlet bright and early in search of Sails and Dolphin again. Fishing had been very slow the last few trips but we gave it a shot anyhow. Caught a couple of nice Mutton's while bottom fishing and then went looking for dolphin. Found nice weeds but no Mahi. Caught this little guy on a Sabiki rod while trying to get bait under a weedline in 600'. So can't say we didn't catch one...

March 21 2015 Palm Beach Offshore Fishing Report

Carrie and her Parent's joined me for a fishing adventure in what amounted to be a very slow day. It took almost the entire morning to finally catch a Bonita. Between the return of the fog and choppy seas as the day went on we at least avoided the big goose egg! Trolled the beach for bait and caught a Spanish Mackerel that actually jumped out of the water while hitting the bait. Have seen kings do this but never a Spanish. Was pretty cool.
